Today's Weather - Friday, July 3, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL — Mostly sunny and very hot through early afternoon, with a high near 90 and heat index values pushing up to around 106. Showers and thunderstorms become likely after about 4 p.m., with the best window for storms late afternoon into early evening. Any storm can bring frequent lightning, a quick burst of wind, and a heavy downpour that briefly floods streets and parking lots. Tonight turns partly cloudy with lingering storms mainly before 8 p.m. and a low near 80

Today’s setup is a classic early-July South Florida pattern: plenty of heat, plenty of moisture, and just enough sea-breeze interaction to spark storms later in the day. The National Weather Service notes a very moist and unstable air mass remains in place, and that matters because it makes storms more efficient rain producers once they form.

Moisture levels are running unusually high for this time of year, and the forecast discussion highlights that the atmosphere may hold near-record amounts of water vapor. In plain terms, when storms develop, they can wring out a lot of rain in a short time.

Add in weak steering winds, and storms won’t move along quickly. That combination—slow motion plus repeated downpours—raises the risk for localized flooding, especially in urban areas and places that don’t drain well.

Storms should build mainly from mid to late afternoon as the Atlantic sea breeze pushes inland and collides with other boundaries left behind by earlier showers. Boca Raton’s coastal location can sometimes delay the first storms compared to inland areas, but once boundaries collide, coverage can ramp up quickly.

For the Boca Raton area waters (Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach), winds stay light—generally south 5 to 10 knots today and tonight—with seas around 2 feet. Boating conditions look manageable outside of storms, but thunderstorms can create sudden hazards: brief higher seas, sharp wind gusts, and dangerous cloud-to-water lightning.

Expect light chop on the Intracoastal. If you’re heading out late day, keep an eye to the west for building storms and have a quick plan to get off open water when thunder is heard.
