BROWARD COUNTY, FL — Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left a man dead in Cooper City.
BSO Traffic Homicide detectives responded about 6:20 p.m. Sunday, June 21, to the 8700 block of Griffin Road after a report of a crash involving two vehicles.
Detectives said the preliminary investigation found Arie Levy was driving a 2016 BMW 750 sedan westbound on Griffin Road approaching the intersection of Southwest 87th Avenue. Nicole Thomas was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Trax SUV eastbound on Griffin Road approaching the same intersection.
According to investigators, Levy failed to maintain control of the BMW and traveled southwest through the intersection into the eastbound lanes. The front passenger side of the Chevrolet collided with the rear passenger side of the BMW in what detectives described as a sideswipe-type crash.
Detectives said the impact caused both vehicles to rotate clockwise away from the area of collision. The Chevrolet came to rest within the intersection. The BMW continued southwest and came to rest on the sidewalk along the south side of the roadway.
On scene, BSO deputies provided life-saving measures to Levy, according to the sheriff’s office. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported him to Hollywood Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators said it is possible Levy suffered a medical event prior to the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing. BSO Traffic Homicide detectives are responsible for the crash investigation and will continue working to determine what led up to the collision. Residents who travel Griffin Road near Southwest 87th Avenue should watch for any follow-up traffic impacts tied to the ongoing investigation.
