PBSO says a fatal tow truck crash happened in the 600 block of U.S. Highway 27 North in South Bay.

SOUTH BAY, FL — The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver killed in a tow truck crash on U.S. Highway 27 North in South Bay as Terrence Martin of Stuart.

The crash happened at about 7:03 p.m. on June 19, 2026, in the 600 block of U.S. Highway 27 North, within the city limits of South Bay, according to PBSO. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:12 p.m. by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

According to PBSO’s Traffic Division report, Martin was driving a 2016 Hino flatbed tow truck south in the 600 block of U.S. Highway 27 North when the vehicle negotiated a right-hand curve.

PBSO investigators said Martin lost control of the tow truck and the vehicle began rotating clockwise. The report states the tow truck left the roadway and struck two large palm trees, with the impact occurring on the driver’s door area.

Investigators said the impact caused the flatbed tow truck to continue rotating. The metal deck sheared off, skipped about 170 feet through a residential yard, and entered the property of Moss Towing, where the deck bed struck a parked trailer loaded with steel, according to the report.

PBSO said the tow truck came to an uncontrolled final rest off the roadway, facing southeast.

Marsy’s Law was not invoked, and next of kin was notified, according to the updated information provided. PBSO did not list any other moving vehicles or additional injuries in the provided crash report.
