Severe Weather Alert - Monday, June 22, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL — Boca Raton and the surrounding Broward/Palm Beach area are seeing a volatile late-afternoon pattern Monday: the National Weather Service in Miami cancelled a severe thunderstorm warning for central Broward at 5:29 p.m., but scattered showers and storms remain possible into the early evening. With weak steering winds, any storm that develops can linger over the same neighborhoods, bringing frequent lightning, brief gusty winds, and pockets of heavy rain while dangerous heat continues.

The immediate severe threat in central Broward has eased after the warned storm weakened, prompting the cancellation of the warning. For Boca Raton residents, that’s good news—but it’s not an “all clear” for the region.

The broader forecast pattern still supports isolated thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, especially over the interior and toward southwest Florida, and storms may drift slowly due to weak steering flow. Slow-moving storms are a key concern because they can dump heavy rain over a small area in a short time, creating street flooding in low-lying spots and reducing visibility on major routes.

Even non-severe storms can produce sudden wind gusts capable of knocking down small branches or blowing around unsecured outdoor items. Lightning remains the most immediate life-safety hazard—if you can hear thunder, move indoors immediately and stay away from windows.

Heat is the other major hazard today. The National Weather Service highlights Moderate to Major HeatRisk impacts with temperatures in the low to mid 90s and heat indices around 103–107°F.
