Severe Weather Alert - Friday, June 19, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL — Boca Raton and the surrounding Palm Beach County area remain in an active evening storm pattern Friday, with thunderstorms capable of producing sudden, strong wind gusts even after a warning expires. The National Weather Service said the severe thunderstorm warning for southwestern Palm Beach County (and east-central Hendry County) ended at 7:15 p.m. as the storm moved out, but residents should still be prepared for brief bursts of wind and lightning through the evening as additional storms develop and move through South Florida.

While the immediate severe warning has ended, the atmosphere remains primed for storms that can quickly intensify. The NWS noted gusty winds up to 55 mph are still possible with the thunderstorm complex moving through the region.

For Boca Raton, that means the main hazards are sudden wind-driven downed tree limbs, power flickers or isolated outages, and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning—especially for anyone outdoors at parks, beaches, golf courses, or commuting on exposed roadways. Residents should treat any approaching storm as potentially hazardous: move indoors at the first sound of thunder, secure loose outdoor items (patio furniture, umbrellas, trash bins), and use extra caution while driving as heavy rain can sharply reduce visibility and create ponding on roads.

If you encounter downed lines, keep your distance and report them to authorities. Looking ahead, the broader forecast pattern remains unsettled.

The NWS Miami forecast discussion highlights increasing chances for more widespread showers and thunderstorms through the weekend, along with oppressive heat. Heat indices are expected to reach 105–110 degrees each day through the end of the weekend, which can worsen the impacts of power interruptions and make outdoor cleanup or travel more dangerous.

Marine Update: Boaters along the Palm Beach County coast should remain alert for thunderstorms capable of producing locally higher winds and frequent lightning. If storms approach, head to safe harbor early and avoid open water until conditions improve.
