BOCA RATON, FL — A former Boca Lago Country Club employee has filed a civil lawsuit in Palm Beach County Circuit Court alleging workplace harassment, discrimination and retaliation at the Boca Raton club, according to a complaint reviewed by Boca Post.
The complaint, Karolyne J. Accius v. Boca Lago Country Club, Inc. and Boca Holdings, LLC, Case No. 502026CA006263XXXAMB, was filed June 4, 2026, in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in and for Palm Beach County. The filing names Boca Lago Country Club, Inc., and Boca Holdings, LLC, as defendants.
Accius, a Broward County resident, claims she worked for the defendants in Boca Raton beginning around July 2022 as a server and bartender, according to the lawsuit. The complaint says she is represented by William M. Julien, P.A., through attorneys Olivia F. Povedano and William M. Julien.
The allegations are claims made in a civil complaint and have not been proven in court.
According to the complaint, Accius alleges she was subjected to repeated racial, national origin and sexual harassment during her employment. The lawsuit claims the alleged conduct included racial slurs, derogatory comments about Haitian employees, comments about her appearance and hair, unwanted sexual comments, and unwanted physical contact by male employees or managers.
The complaint alleges some of the conduct happened in the presence of managers, supervisors, employees, club members or other third parties. Accius claims the defendants knew or should have known about the alleged conduct and failed to take adequate corrective action.
Accius also alleges she complained to management numerous times about racial and sexual harassment. The complaint claims she was terminated on or about Oct. 12, 2023, in retaliation for her complaints and for not accepting the alleged conduct.
The lawsuit includes eight counts. They include intentional or reckless infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, common law battery, civil assault, negligent supervision, negligent retention, violation of the Florida Civil Rights Act for alleged sexual and racial harassment and discrimination, and violation of the Florida Civil Rights Act for alleged retaliation.
In the Florida Civil Rights Act counts, Accius alleges she is a female employee who is Black and Haitian and that she was subjected to a sexually and racially hostile work environment. The complaint also says she filed a complaint with the Florida Commission on Human Relations and that 180 days passed after the filing of her charge.
The complaint seeks monetary damages in excess of $50,000, exclusive of attorney fees and costs. Accius is also seeking lost earnings, lost benefits, front and back pay, compensatory damages, damages for emotional distress, medical and psychological expenses, costs, prejudgment interest, attorney fees where allowed, punitive damages under the civil rights counts, and other relief the court deems appropriate.
Accius is demanding a jury trial.
