BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Monday, May 18, 2026 BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Breezy easterly winds will be the main theme today, keeping it feeling more “windy beach day” than “stormy day” for most of Boca Raton. Expect mostly sunny skies and a high near 85, with only a slight chance (around 20%) of a quick shower or thunderstorm. The high rip current risk remains in place for Atlantic beaches through at least Tuesday evening, so swimming is not recommended. Tonight turns a bit more unsettled late, with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms toward daybreak Tuesday and lows near 79
South Florida’s weather setup today is being driven by a push-and-pull pattern overhead: a pocket of low pressure aloft near the Bahamas on one side, and a broader ridge of high pressure over the Gulf and Deep South on the other. The National Weather Service notes that this arrangement can send small “energy ripples” in from the northeast, helping clouds and storms bubble up even when the day starts out fairly bright.
For Boca Raton, the steady east wind is a big factor. With onshore flow staying dominant, the typical afternoon sea-breeze collision that helps storms fire closer to the east coast is weaker, and the focus for the most active storms should again lean toward the interior and especially Southwest Florida.
That matches the forecast: only a low-end chance of a shower or thunderstorm locally today, with better odds late tonight into early Tuesday. Even so, the atmosphere has enough fuel for a few storms to briefly become strong where storms do form, mainly due to warm, humid air near the ground and cooler air higher up.
The NWS flags a low-end, conditional risk for an isolated severe storm today, with the main concern being gusty winds (and a small chance of hail) in the strongest cells—most likely away from the immediate east coast. Temperatures stay seasonably hot: mid to upper 80s along the east coast, with humidity pushing the “feels like” readings higher at times.
Boaters and beachgoers should plan for a moderate to fresh easterly breeze early this week. Along the Boca Raton coastal waters, east winds around 15–20 knots will keep seas generally 3–4 feet, with occasional 5-foot sets offshore, and choppy conditions in the Intracoastal in exposed areas.
A “Small Craft Should Exercise Caution” headline is posted for the local Atlantic waters. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are possible, and any storm can bring sudden higher winds, rougher seas, and dangerous lightning.
On the beach, the onshore wind and surf will continue to support a high rip current risk through at least Tuesday evening—avoid swimming in unguarded areas and follow local beach safety guidance.
