Today's Weather - Friday, May 15, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Friday, May 15, 2026 BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca Raton will run mostly sunny today with a high near 86 and an east breeze developing late morning. The bigger story is the beach: rip current danger increases, with a high risk posted for Palm Beach County starting midday. Most rain today should stay limited and favor inland areas later this afternoon and evening, but a brief storm can’t be ruled out. Tonight stays warm and partly cloudy near 78 with a steady southeast breeze

South Florida is in a transition pattern that looks quiet on the surface, but has just enough moving parts to keep an eye on the sky and the surf. The National Weather Service notes a weak leftover front lingering south of us near the Florida Straits, while a small surface low slides across the southern peninsula.

At the same time, a broad dip in the upper-level pattern over the Southeast U.S. is drifting east.

Even with those features nearby, today is not expected to be a widespread rain day for Boca Raton. The reason is moisture depth: while total moisture numbers may look decent, the forecast discussion emphasizes that most of the humidity is trapped low in the atmosphere, with much drier air above it.

In plain terms, clouds can build for a while, but many updrafts struggle to grow tall enough to produce storms. Still, the atmosphere won’t be completely “locked.” Sea breezes, the nearby surface low, and boundary collisions can provide just enough lift late today for a few showers or a thunderstorm, mainly away from the immediate coast and closer to interior South Florida.

For boaters and beachgoers, winds and seas trend up a bit as onshore flow strengthens. Nearshore Atlantic waters from Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach start with east winds 5–10 knots, increasing to 10–15 knots later today, then around 15 knots tonight and Saturday with gusts near 20 knots.

Seas generally hold 2–3 feet, building to 3–4 feet Saturday night and Sunday night (occasionally near 5 feet offshore). The Intracoastal will run a moderate chop, turning choppy in exposed areas early next week as winds increase.

A few showers or isolated storms can create brief, locally hazardous gusts and higher seas.
