BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Miami man is facing a felony charge after Boca Raton police said he struck a woman in a marked pedestrian crosswalk with a Tesla Cybertruck, then left the scene without stopping to help.
Raul Quintana Menduet, 58, was arrested by the Boca Raton Police Department on April 9 and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving injury. Police listed his address in Miami. Jail records show he was booked shortly after his arrest.
The underlying crash investigation began after the April 4 incident in the 700 block of Northeast Spanish River Boulevard, a busy corridor near Federal Highway and the Publix plaza on the city’s east side. According to the probable cause affidavit, the woman was crossing northbound on her bicycle in a marked pedestrian crosswalk when the Cybertruck hit her.
Police wrote that the Tesla was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes at the time of the collision.
After the impact, investigators said, the driver continued north into the Publix plaza at 4141 North Federal Highway and did not stop to render aid. A witness at the scene was able to provide police with a Florida license plate tied to the vehicle, described in the affidavit as a dark-colored Tesla Cybertruck.
Investigators then used that information to identify the suspected driver and obtain a phone number. During a phone conversation with police, Quintana Menduet allegedly said he knew he had hit the pedestrian, but kept driving after seeing her get up and believing she was okay.
Police later met with him at Sand Pine Park, 300 Newcastle Street. According to the affidavit, he admitted there that he had been driving on the wrong side of the road because the vehicle was in “auto pilot.” Investigators also wrote that he showed officers a photo from the Cybertruck’s video system that depicted the truck traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Police said he indicated he was willing to provide the video once Tesla sent it to him.
The woman who was hit suffered what police described as a minor injury to her right knee and complained of pain in her left shoulder. She declined medical treatment at the scene.
The arrest paperwork lists the charge under Florida Statute 316.027(2)(a), the section covering leaving the scene of a crash involving injury. That offense is handled as a felony. Boca Raton police made the arrest, and the defendant was booked into the Palm Beach County jail system.
The case also provides a clearer picture of where responsibility sits. Boca Raton police are the investigating agency on the crash and arrest. Prosecutors in Palm Beach County will decide how the criminal case proceeds in court. Additional evidence may still be gathered, including any Tesla video referenced in the affidavit.
