Today’s Weather – Thursday, March 12, 2026
BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Thursday, March 12, 2026 BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Today will be mostly sunny and warm, with a high near 84 and a gusty south wind at times. A brief shower is possible late this afternoon, but most of the day looks dry. Tonight turns mostly cloudy with a better chance of showers and a few thunderstorms after midnight. Rain and storm chances stay elevated Friday and through the weekend, with on-and-off downpours and occasional lightning
Boca Raton’s quiet, warm pattern is starting to loosen its grip today as the weather setup over the eastern U.S. shifts.
The National Weather Service notes that the Atlantic high pressure that has helped keep us stable is being pushed away as a stronger disturbance aloft moves toward Florida. That change matters locally because it turns our winds more southerly today, pulling in warmer, more humid air and setting the stage for increasing rain chances.
For Thursday, the deepest moisture is expected to stay mainly north of us, so any shower activity that pops up later today should be hit-or-miss and generally unimpressive. The bigger change arrives tonight into Friday as a weak cold front slides south and then loses momentum near Lake Okeechobee.
Even though it’s not a strong front, it helps nudge richer moisture into South Florida, which is why Boca’s rain chances rise to around 40% tonight and Friday. Friday afternoon is when scattered showers and thunderstorms become more common, helped along by daytime heating and the sea breeze.
For boaters and beachgoers near Boca Raton, winds and seas trend more active at times. Today brings south winds around 15–20 knots on the Atlantic waters with 2–3 foot seas and a moderate chop in the Intracoastal.
Tonight stays breezy, then winds turn northerly after midnight as showers and a few thunderstorms become more likely. Friday is the rougher day offshore: east winds 10–15 knots with seas building to 3–5 feet (occasionally higher), and 4–6 feet Friday night.
The rip current risk is very low today with more offshore flow, but it’s expected to increase again this weekend as winds turn onshore. Winds and seas will be higher near thunderstorms.
