Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car In Western Delray Beach

Caryn Chomsky Passed Away

DELRAY BEACH, FL — A runner was struck and killed by car in western Delray Beach early on Sunday morning.

The deadly crash happened near Atlantic Avenue and the Turnpike in unincorporated Delray Beach just after 7 AM on Sunday, June 9th, 2024.

Myles Scott, 19, from Boynton Beach, was driving his Honda Civic towards the west on Atlantic Avenue just past the Florida Turnpike. Meanwhile, Caryn Chomsky, aged 44, was jogging eastbound on the sidewalk heading towards the turnpike. Scott veered off the road onto the sidewalk accidentally. His car’s front corner collided with Chomsky, causing her to be thrown onto the car’s hood and windshield.

The Honda Civic driven by Scott then veered further off road, descending an embankment and ending up in a water filled ditch.

Unfortunately, Chomsky was declared deceased at the scene by emergency responders from Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.

While it was not immediately clear why Scott crashed into Chomsky, the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office indicates that charges are pending, according to a report reviewed by Boca Post.
