NORTH LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — 53-year-old Enrique Alonso was struck by a car and killed in North Lauderdale on Monday evening.
The Traffic Homicide Unit of the Broward Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a tragic accident involving a pedestrian.
According to detectives, on Monday, December 18th, at around 7:26 p.m., reports were received by Broward County Regional Communications regarding an incident where a vehicle collided with a pedestrian in the vicinity of 5400 North State Road 7 in North Lauderdale. Deputies from the BSO and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue promptly responded to the scene. The pedestrian, identified as Enrique Alonso, was immediately taken to Broward Health Medical Center but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest that 76-year-old Doris Dudley, of Lauderdale Lakes, was driving a 2007 Buick Lacrosse heading southbound on North State Road 7 in the far left lane when approaching the area around the 5400 block. Alonso, who was not crossing at a designated crosswalk, attempted to cross from west to east along North State Road 7. At that moment, Alonso was struck by the front passenger side of Dudley’s Buick. The impact caused him to be propelled onto the hood and subsequently into the windshield. As Dudley applied her brakes, Alonso was projected southbound and eventually came to rest on the road.
The driver remained at the scene throughout and there is no indication that excessive speed or impairment played a role in this tragic incident. The investigation is still ongoing.
