FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — A woman was struck by a bus and killed in Fort Lauderdale late on Saturday evening.

The accident happened  near 6400 N Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale at 11:15 PM on Saturday, October 21st, 2023.

The Traffic Homicide Unit of the Broward Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a tragic accident that involved a Broward County Transit bus and a pedestrian.

As per the findings, on Saturday, October 21st, around 11;15 p.m., reports were received by Broward County Regional Communications regarding an incident between a bus and a pedestrian in the vicinity of 6400 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. Responding to the scene were Fort Lauderdale Police and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue. Unfortunately, upon arrival, it was determined that the female pedestrian had passed away.

Based on preliminary investigations, it was discovered that the bus involved in the accident was out of service and headed back to the bus yard located on Copans Road. It was traveling northbound in the inside lane of North Federal Highway near the 6400 block. Meanwhile, at that point in time, the pedestrian attempted to cross North Federal Highway from west to east while being situated between blocks without using a designated crosswalk. Regrettably, she walked into the path of the bus and was struck.

The driver of the bus cooperated fully with authorities and neither excessive speed nor impairment are believed to be contributing factors in this unfortunate incident. The investigation is still ongoing.
