Deputy Fredtajah Pinkney, 24, Charged With Fraud

BROWARD COUNTY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested one of their own deputies on fraud charges.

Fredtajah Pinkney, a 24-year-old deputy with the Broward Sheriffs Office was arrested on fraud charges on Thursday. Pinkney now faces two counts of uttering a forged instrument. According to investigators with BSO’s Public Corruption Unit, Pinkney falsified pay stubs on occasions in an attempt to secure a lease for an apartment.

The investigation began in July after receiving a tip about Pinkney’s activities. As detectives dug deeper they discovered that in July of 2021, prior to her employment start date of August 30th, 2021, Pinkney falsely claimed employment at a Broward County school and created paystubs from the school to support her lease application. However, an official from the school confirmed that Pinkney had never worked there.

Furthermore in August of this year it was found that Pinkney used the forged paystubs again when applying for a lease at a Coral Springs apartment community scheduled for May 2022. On this occasion she stated that her job as a deputy was her occupation while claiming the school position as employment.

In a statement BSO released immediately following the arrest, Broward Sheriff Gregory Tone said:

“Once BSO’s Public Corruption detectives received this information, they immediately commenced an investigation,” Sheriff Gregory Tony said. “Any time a BSO employee is accused of a crime it tarnishes the reputation of this agency and the broader law enforcement community. I’ve made it clear that when employees are suspected of stepping outside the law, they will be thoroughly investigated and, when appropriate, face arrest. We the police must have the moral courage to police ourselves.”

Pinkney was taken into custody on Thursday, August 31st, 2023 and has since been released from jail. Her employment status has been updated from suspension with pay to suspension, without pay.

  1. When those whose job it is to enforce the law, break the law, then punishment must happen.
