BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — Boca Raton Police Department quickly responded to a shooting at the Boca Town Center Mall on Wednesday night and claimed that they detained ‘possible suspects’.

BRPD has yet to issue a statement to the public. Boca Post has asked but has not yet received any further information about the shooting. Clearly, this is still an active investigation that the department is staying tight-lipped on for the moment.

All we know is the department responded to a shooting call Wednesday evening and then that Boca Raton Fire Rescue transported 1 victim with a gunshot wound to the leg to a nearby hospital. BRPD then took to Social Media saying that there is no need to shelter in place and that the scene was safe.

Shortly after that time, BRPD said that there is no active shooter and officers will remain on the scene while the investigation continues. The department added that officers have detained ‘possible suspects’.

Boca Raton Police say that they arrested two suspects shortly after the shooting following a crash at Butts and Glades Road.

Statement from Boca Raton Police Department:

Boca Raton, FL – Shortly before 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, Boca Raton Police responded to a
call inside the Town Center at Boca Raton. On arrival, an officer located a male with a gunshot wound to
his leg outside the mall entrance of Saks Fifth Avenue.

The victim advised he and his three friends were walking the mall, outside of Saks Fifth Avenue, when two
unknown suspects approached them and began “mean-muggin” them. A fight broke out between the
parties, when one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the leg. The suspects took cash
that fell out of the victim’s pocket and fled.

An officer arriving on scene witnessed the driver of a silver Toyota Camry leaving the mall at a high rate
of speed. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled before crashing at Butts and Glades
Road. After a short foot chase, the two suspects were arrested. Three firearms were recovered from the
vehicle.

This is an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Scott Hanley at 561-
338-1344.

Boca Raton Police say that they arrested two suspects, identified as Carlos Peavy Jr. and John Pitts Jr. Currently we can only confirm with PBSO that Carlos Peavy is facing the following charges:

  • 812.014 2C5 (FT) – LARC – GRAND THEFT OF FIREARM
  • 843.02 (MF) – RESIST OFFICER – OBSTRUCT WO VIOLENCE
