FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Fort Lauderdale police say they have located and identified the juveniles seen in a Ring camera video that captured the killing of a wild duck on a residential property last month, an investigation the agency is classifying as aggravated animal abuse.
The incident happened in the 300 block of Southwest 8th Avenue in the City of Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, at about 5 p.m., according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. Police said a homeowner called for help after watching footage that showed a juvenile cornering a wild duck on the property and stomping it to death.
Officers responded and confirmed the homeowner’s claim, police said. Investigators also obtained video surveillance of the incident.
In an update released by the department, Fort Lauderdale police said the juveniles in the video have now been identified, along with their parent.
Police credited public assistance for helping move the case forward, saying information shared with investigators through social media played a role in identifying the juveniles. The department said those tips helped identify “at-risk juveniles” and allowed police to provide intervention in coordination with the Florida Department of Children and Families.
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department said the case remains an active and ongoing investigation. The agency did not release names or ages in the update and did not announce charges.
