WEST PALM BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — Deputies shot and killed a man after he pulled a gun on them during a call in unincorporated West Palm Beach.

A large law enforcement presence was seen near the 1589 block of Military Trail in unincorporated West Palm Beach as PBSO investigates a deputy-involved shooting that occurred just after 9 AM.

At 9:15 AM, two deputies from the PBSO were approached by a concerned citizen who believed they had witnessed a suspicious individual trying to break into a building on South Military Trail in unincorporated West Palm Beach.

In an effort to engage with the suspicious individual, both deputies approached him. However, the individual was uncooperative and sitting with his back towards some bushes. One of the deputies reached out to assist him in standing up, but unfortunately, the situation escalated when the individual started resisting and fighting with that deputy. During the altercation, the individual tried to reach for a gun that was tucked in his side. Upon seeing this dangerous situation unfold, the second deputy ordered their colleague to create distance between himself and the individual while also discharging her firearm once, hitting the individual in their torso region. Immediate first aid was administered to the injured party who was then transported by PBC Fire Rescue to a local hospital.

Tragically, despite efforts made at medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries at 11;58 am.

For privacy reasons and until proper notification of next of kin is completed, we will not be disclosing the name of the deceased male.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is leading this investigation into what transpired during this Deputy Involved Shooting alongside Violent Crimes detectives from PBSO and investigators from State Attorney’s Office.

Both deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave as per standard department protocol.
