WEST PALM BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — The stretch of Military Trail near Canal 10 Road is busy even late at night. On Wednesday evening, it became the scene of a fatal crash that left one man dead.

Dayan Rodriguez, a Lake Worth resident, was riding a motorcycle southbound on Military Trail shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 when the crash occurred, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Traffic investigators say Rodriguez was approaching the intersection at Canal 10 Road when his motorcycle struck another vehicle. The details that followed are central to what deputies are now treating as a hit-and-run investigation.

According to the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division, Rodriguez was traveling in the outside southbound lane. His motorcycle had no lights on and was moving at a high rate of speed as it neared the intersection. At the same time, a second vehicle was believed to be northbound on Military Trail, positioned in the left turn or U-turn lane at Canal 10 Road.

Investigators say that vehicle may have made a U-turn, moving into the southbound lanes and into the path of the motorcycle. The front of the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the vehicle. Rodriguez was thrown from the bike.

The driver of the other vehicle did not stop.

Deputies wrote that the vehicle fled southbound on Military Trail, leaving Rodriguez injured in the roadway. No identifying information about the fleeing vehicle was listed in the initial traffic log.

Rodriguez was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach in critical condition. Several hours later, at 5:53 a.m. Thursday, he was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to PBSO.

Military Trail is one of Palm Beach County’s main north–south corridors, carrying thousands of vehicles daily through residential and commercial areas. The Canal 10 Road intersection sits near multiple access points used by commuters traveling between West Palm Beach and surrounding communities.

With the second vehicle reported to have left the scene, investigators have not announced any arrests or charges as of Thursday morning. The Sheriff’s Office has not released a description of the vehicle involved or said whether surveillance footage is being reviewed.

The crash remains under investigation.
