WELLINGTON, FL (Boca Post) — Renaissance Charter School in Wellington was put on a CODE RED lockdown after PBSO received a tip there was an active shooter on campus on Thursday morning.

PBSO first advised that if parents wanted to pick up their kids they could do so at Olympia Park which is just north of the school. Later in the day PBSO advised that the kids will be kept the park until parents arrive to pick them up.

PBSO advises that this is still an active investigation as deputies are still searching the school for a weapon. While PBSO has called this threat unfounded, the department is still searching for a weapon.

Sources close to the situation are telling Boca Post that a student reported to a teacher that there was a weapon on campus. Sources tell us that students had to leave backpacks on campus to be searched prior to being bused to the reunification point at Olympia Park.

There is still a heavy police presence at the Wellington Renaissance Charter school located at 3200 S. SR-7 in Wellington.

Renaissance Charter School At Wellington is 1 of 6 charter schools owned by Charter Schools USA operating in Palm Beach County.

UPDATE

PBSO reports that after transporting 844 students, teachers, and staff, deputies continued to search for a weapon on campus but did not locate one. According to investigators, the threat is the result of a student telling a teacher that they saw another student with what they perceived to be a handgun.

PBSO says they are proud of the student who came forward as “SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING” is always encouraged.
