BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Several major railroad crossings near Interstate 95 in Boca Raton were shut down Monday morning due to malfunctioning gate arms, creating traffic disruptions across central east-west routes.
According to non-emergency traffic alerts sent shortly after 7:30 a.m., railroad crossings just west of I-95 at Palmetto Park Road and I-95 at Camino Real were closed after gate arms failed to operate properly. Drivers were urged to seek alternate routes while crews addressed the issue.
A follow-up alert issued at 8:21 a.m. expanded the impact area. Eastbound traffic at Palmetto Park Road and Military Trail was also closed because of a related gate arm malfunction at the railroad tracks just west of I-95.
The closures affect some of Boca Raton’s busiest commuter corridors, particularly during the morning rush, and may cause delays for drivers heading toward downtown, Mizner Park, Florida Atlantic University, and nearby residential neighborhoods.
No estimated time for reopening was provided in the alerts, and officials did not indicate whether train service itself was disrupted. Motorists traveling east or west across the city were advised to avoid the affected crossings and use alternative north-south routes where possible.
Traffic conditions are expected to remain fluid until the malfunctioning equipment is repaired and crossings are cleared for normal operation.
This is a developing traffic situation.
UPDATE (2/2/2026 – 8:55 AM EST): The railroad crossings just west of I-95/Palmetto and I-95/Camino are now open.
Additionally, eastbound traffic at Palmetto and Military is now open.
Traffic incidents on major corridors, including I-95 and Florida’s Turnpike, are followed closely by Boca Post.
