A man hit a woman on an electric bike, helped her get up and then drove off. He was arrested after a tip from Crime Stoppers led detectives to his residence in Hollywood. The incident occurred on Friday, May 31, around 9 p.m. When deputies received a report of a person lying on the road in Fort Lauderdale. The victim, Margarita Lopez, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment. Investigation revealed that a silver SUV hit Lopez while she was riding the electric bike in the tunnel on South Federal Highway. After assisting Lopez to stand up, the driver placed the bike against a wall and fled the scene. Following a Crime Stoppers tip on June 24, detectives found Ritchie Jacobs, aged 76, at his home in Hollywood.
He was taken to the BSO Main Jail and is charged with failing to stop or stay at the scene of an accident that resulted in serious injury.
