Edy De Oliveira E. Silva Passed Away

POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — A 71-year-old woman was struck by a truck and killed while crossing a street in Pompano Beach on Monday morning.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating a Pompano Beach crash that resulted in the death of a 71-year-old pedestrian.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:26 a.m. on Monday, May 22, near the intersection of Southeast Third Street and Southeast First Avenue. According to investigators, the physical evidence on the scene and witness statements revealed that Brian W. Smith was traveling westbound in a Black GMC Sierra Denali pickup truck on Southeast Third Street approaching the intersection of Southeast First Avenue. At the same time, Edy De Oliveira E. Silva was attempting to cross Southeast First Avenue from north to south when she walked into the path of the GMC and was struck.

Detectives say the impact of the collision caused Silva to fall to the ground and that the driver of the GMC came to a controlled stop.

BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded, and the victim was transported to Broward Health North, where she was immediately taken into surgery and pronounced deceased.

Deputies say that neither excessive speed nor impairment is considered a factor in the fatal collision. The investigation continues.
