UPDATE

BSO says the rescue crew was responding to a vehicle accident in North Lauderdale when the aircraft sustained a in-flight emergency, causing it to crash into a small apartment building.

Two crew members, Pilot Daron Roche and Paramedic Mikael “Mike” Chaguaceda escaped the wreckage.

A woman who was in the apartment complex that the helicopter crashed into was pronounced dead at the scene. BSFR Captain Terryson Jackson also died at the scene.

“Terryson was a rock star. He was one of the best of us, one of the brightest,” Sheriff Tony said. “He bled this profession inside and out, all day long. The type of effort and commitment he had for this community – impeccable. We’re going to suffer. We’re going to hurt, but this community should know that we’re prepared to answer the next call.”
BSO has grounded its fleet of helicopters until they can all be inspected.

UPDATE

BSO confirms that two people have died in the crash. Fire Rescue Captain Terryson Jackson, a veteran of almost 20 years with the department, has died along with a female resident.

BSO Fire Rescue transported 4 people, including Fire Rescue Pilot Daron Roche, to a local hospital where they are in fair condition.
