David Schaeffer, 75, Passed Away

LAKE WORTH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — 75-year-old David Schaeffer died suddenly after being involved in a high speed crash in unincorporated Lake Worth.

The crash happened near Hypoluxo Road and Winston Trails Boulevard just before 12 PM on Saturday, January 20th, 2024.

Trent Hewitt was driving a Infiniti G37 west on Hypoluxo Road in the middle lane. He was going at a high speed as he approached the intersection with Winston Trails Blvd, according to deputies.

Around the same time, David Schaeffer was traveling east on Hypoluxo Road and positioned himself in the left turn lane to make a left onto Winston Trails Blvd. While making the left turn, Schaeffer’s Kia was violently struck on its passenger side by the front of Hewitt’s Infiniti.

Due to this collision, Schaeffer’s car started rotating counter clockwise towards the northwest corner of the intersection. As it kept rotating, it hit a concrete utility pole with its rear passenger corner. After hitting the pole, Schaeffer’s car finally came to rest on its side facing southeast.

Meanwhile, Hewitt continued driving westbound until he eventually stopped after passing through the intersection.

Unfortunately, David Schaeffer passed away at the scene of the accident. Trent Hewitt sustained serious injuries and was taken to Delray Medical Center for treatment.

PBSO has indicated that charges against Hewitt may be pending.
