LAKE WORTH, FL (Boca Post) — A 16-year-old boy has died days after being hit by a minivan while riding his bicycle near Lantana Road and Congress Ave.

PBSO traffic homicide investigators describe the accident:

A Honda Odyssey, driven by 51-year-old Marie Leandre, was traveling northbound on S Congress Ave, approaching the intersection with Lantana Rd within the outer lane.

Pedestrian 1 (P-1) prior to the collision was northbound on the east sidewalk of S Congress Ave and was stopped, prior to crossing Lantana Road.

As Leandre began to make a right turn to go east onto Lantana Rd, the pedestrian began to improperly cross Lantana Road, leaving the sidewalk, and riding northbound in the crosswalk.

Leandre failed to observe the pedestrian and impacted him on the minivan’s right front bumper and passenger front quarter panel. Leandre’s minivan carried P-1 and his gray bicycle from the point of impact, toward the curb on the southeast corner, toward the Shell gas station entrance.

Leandre’s minivan continued with the bicycle, through the entrance and parking lot eastbound.

The bicycle came off of the pedestrian as he impacted a metal guardrail on the east side of the Shell parking lot (property line). After the impact with the guardrail, Leandre’s minivan continued over it, through the grass shoulder, and came to an uncontrolled final rest in front of JoJo’s cafe ( 3246 Lantana Road.)

Leandre was transported by ground to JFK Hospital with minor injuries. P-1 was transported by ground to St. Mary’s Medical Center with critical injuries.

On 08/10/2022 at 12:09 p.m. P-1 was pronounced deceased from injuries sustained while under treatment at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
