LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — A 2-year-old child was struck and killed Tuesday night in Lake Worth Beach after running into the path of a pickup truck turning onto 10th Avenue South, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office traffic report.

The crash happened around 7:26 p.m. at South A Street and 10th Avenue South. Deputies say a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Alberto De Leon Barrios, 42, of Greenacres, was heading south on South A Street and turned left onto 10th Avenue South when the child entered the roadway.

According to the report, the toddler “darted out into the roadway from in front of a vehicle parked on the south side of the roadway” as the pickup passed the parked vehicle. The child was crossing 10th Avenue South in a northbound direction and ran directly into the truck’s path. The driver’s side front of the Dodge struck him.

The child was thrown to the ground. Paramedics rushed him to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries, according to PBSO.

Family members were already on scene at the time of the crash, investigators wrote.

Barrios was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt. PBSO marked alcohol and drugs as “off” for everyone involved. No charges have been filed at this stage.

A nearby resident, Cristian Felipe Andres, was listed as an involved witness in the report.

The investigation is being handled by Traffic Homicide Investigator J. Frey (ID 9658) under case numbers 25-118032 and 25-118033.
