FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Fort Lauderdale man who had been reported missing over the weekend was found dead Sunday afternoon after deputies located his vehicle submerged in a neighborhood waterway, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Missing Persons Unit confirmed that 35-year-old Jonathan Scibica was found deceased inside his vehicle after it was recovered from a canal near the 900 block of Northeast 63rd Court in Fort Lauderdale.

At approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit located Scibica’s gray 2024 Honda Ridgeline in the water during an aerial search. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Dive Team responded and recovered the vehicle. Scibica was found inside and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Scibica had been the subject of a missing persons alert issued Saturday, Jan. 24. According to detectives, he was last seen at approximately 4 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, leaving Cheers Bar, located at 941 East Cypress Creek Road in Fort Lauderdale.

At the time he was reported missing, Scibica was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds, with black hair dyed blonde and brown eyes. Detectives said he had multiple tattoos on both arms and was last seen wearing the same clothing shown in a photo released by the sheriff’s office. He was believed to be driving a gray 2024 Honda Ridgeline with Florida tag RFBL25.

Scibica was known in the local fitness community as a boxer and co-owner of Level Up Boxing and Fitness in Fort Lauderdale.

Investigators have not released details regarding how the vehicle entered the waterway or the circumstances leading up to Scibica’s death. The case remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released.
