DELRAY BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — A Delray Beach man remains in the Palm Beach County Jail after being arrested on multiple felony charges alleging repeated violations of Florida’s sex offender registration laws, according to jail records and court filings.

Eric Wade Thompson, 66, was taken into custody Tuesday night and booked into the Main Detention Center at 9:38 p.m. Dec. 17. As of Wednesday, he was still in custody following his first appearance.

Thompson faces five third-degree felony counts. All stem from alleged failures to properly register and update information required under state law. The charges include failing to report after vacating a residence, failing to report a driver’s license address change, providing false registration information, failing to report changes in vehicles owned, and failing to report changes to employment information.

Each count carries a $5,000 bond. Court records show bond was formally set Wednesday, putting the total at $25,000.

The case traces back to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigation that resulted in a direct-file arrest warrant signed Dec. 11. A probable cause affidavit was filed the following day. Thompson was arrested several days later.

According to that affidavit, investigators allege Thompson had been living and working in Delray Beach for years while continuing to register himself as transient in Broward County. Records show he listed a transient address near Sample Road and Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach.

But investigators say that wasn’t where he was staying.

The affidavit alleges Thompson had been living at the Sunshine Meadows Equestrian Village area of Delray Beach since at least 2021, working as a ranch hand doing miscellaneous jobs for trainers at the property. According to the report, property management there told deputies they had begun the process of trying to evict Thompson due to ongoing problems he was allegedly causing at the facility.

That detail mattered.

Detectives allege Thompson failed to report his residence, employment, and vehicle information as required, and that he knowingly provided false information by listing himself as transient despite maintaining a long-term place to stay. Investigators reviewed rental receipts, vehicle registration records, driver’s license information, employment details, and prior registration filings as part of the case.

Thompson qualifies as a registered sexual offender under Florida law based on a prior conviction, court records show. No new sexual offense is alleged in this case. The charges focus solely on alleged registration and reporting violations.

Court records indicate Thompson was found indigent and appeared in custody for first appearance proceedings Wednesday. The case has been assigned to circuit court.

A 30-day return hearing is scheduled for Jan. 16, with an initial case conference set for Feb. 12.
