DELRAY BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — A 76-year-old Kings Point woman is arrested for DUI after being observed driving the wrong way on Linton Blvd with 4 flat tires.

A police report submitted by the Delray Beach Police Department states that on Wednesday (12/8/21) at 11:30 PM officers observed a white Hyundai Elantra traveling the wrong way on Linton Blvd at a low speed with all flat tires. The Delray PD officer, in his unmarked vehicle, activated his emergency lights and the driver of the Elantra, Judy Herman, 76, pulled over and exited her vehicle while in the middle of the roadway.

An accident investigation was launched due to the obvious damage to Herman’s vehicle. Officers determined that one tire and a side mirror from Herman’s vehicle were left in Highland Beach. There was evidence to support that Herman traveled over a concrete median and struck 3 trees on Linton Blvd.

Herman was escorted to Delray Medical Center due to the amount of damage and the fact that she was completely unaware of what had occurred.

It was reported that Herman became uncooperative and had to be handcuffed to the hospital bed. DBPD reports that Herman’s eyes were red and glassy. Herman allegedly went through mood swings from calm to upset. She was said to be repeating herself, yelling, and becoming very upset.

Herman admitted that prior to driving she consumed two “party cosmos” between 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm at the Wyndham Hotel in Deerfield Beach. Herman said she remembers turning on to Linton from A1A but doesn’t remember anything after that. Herman didn’t know what hospital she was at or how she got there. Herman then denied being in a motor vehicle crash and said she didn’t know where her tires were.

Herman was escorted to PBSO jail after she was cleared to leave Delray Medical Center. Once at the jail, she was reported to be partially cooperative in that she started to provide breath samples but ultimately refused.

Herman is charged with the following:

  • 316.193(1) – DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
  • 316.081(1) – DRIVING ON WRONG LANE OR SIDE – FAILED TO DRIVE UPON RIGHT HALF OF ROADWAY

She was booked into PBSO jail at about 4 AM early the next day and released to her own recognizance without bond at 10:22 am.
