CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Coral Springs has announced plans for a public Celebration of Life honoring Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer, whose family will host the service on Friday, April 17, at Church by the Glades.
The service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the church, located at 400 Lakeview Drive in Coral Springs. Guests are being asked to arrive by 12 p.m. Following the service, there will be a public viewing as attendees exit, giving those in attendance an opportunity to pay their final respects.
Metayer served Coral Springs as vice mayor and was remembered by the city as a leader defined by service, compassion, and a commitment to making others feel represented.
In announcing the arrangements, the city described Metayer as someone who served Coral Springs with “heart, vision, and purpose.” The city said she was a passionate advocate for people, a champion for inclusion, and a public servant who worked to ensure others felt seen, heard, and represented throughout her time in office.
Mayor Scott Brook said the loss has deeply affected the city.
“We are heartbroken and devastated by the loss of Vice Mayor Metayer,” Brook said. “Nancy led with grace, conviction, and an unwavering belief in the power of community. She was a bright light in Coral Springs and a true champion for others. Her impact on our city will be felt for generations, and her legacy of service and love for this community will never be forgotten.”
The city is encouraging residents and others who want to honor Metayer to do more than attend the memorial. In its announcement, Coral Springs called on the community to carry forward the values she represented during her life and public service — uplifting others, making space at the table, serving with compassion, and working toward a more sustainable future.
The arrangements point to what is expected to be a significant public gathering in Coral Springs, with church facilities being used not only for the service itself but also for a structured media presence. The city said media staging will be set up in the southeast portion of the church parking lot.
Members of the media planning to attend have been asked to coordinate in advance with the city through Paula Rubiano.
For residents, the announcement provides the first public details on how the community will be able to gather and honor one of its top elected officials. The service will offer a formal moment of remembrance, while the public viewing afterward is expected to give attendees a chance for a final personal farewell.
Metayer’s death marks a major loss for Coral Springs city leadership and for a broader community the city says she served with purpose and care. The ceremony on April 17 will now stand as the city’s public tribute to that work and to the legacy she leaves behind.
