CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — A 6-year-old girl was killed following a high speed crash that started as an attempted traffic stop during “routine patrol”.

On the evening of May 5th, 2024, around 5;06 p.m., a Coral Springs Police Officer was out on a regular patrol when they tried to pull over a 2023 White Mercedes carrying three people for a traffic violation near the area of West Sample Road. When the officer activated their emergency lights and siren, the car sped off in an attempt to escape. Following department protocol, the officer decided to end the pursuit by turning off their emergency lights and siren. The fleeing vehicle continued heading west on Sample Road at a high speed until it crashed into a grey 2018 Chevrolet Traverse with two passengers.

The authorities swiftly dispatched Coral Springs Police and Coral Springs Parkland Fire Department to the scene. Upon reaching the site, they identified Chevon Dalton Graham, aged 26, as the driver of the runaway vehicle. All three individuals from that car were taken to Broward Health North with injuries that were not life threatening.

During the collision, a 6 year old girl who was properly secured in a car seat was ejected from her family’s vehicle. She was airlifted to Broward General Medical Center but unfortunately did not survive her injuries. The driver of that vehicle was taken to Broward Health North with injuries that were not life threatening as well.
Due to the seriousness of the accident, the Coral Springs Police Traffic Homicide Unit was summoned to the location for an inquiry. Consequently, Chevon Dalton Graham, the driver involved, was taken into custody and accused of Vehicular Homicide, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding resulting in death, Reckless Driving leading to significant physical harm, Reckless Driving causing damage to property and Operating a Vehicle with a Suspended License with awareness.
