COCONUT CREEK, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Coconut Creek police arrested a 38-year-old man after investigators say he attacked a teenager and attempted to steal a newly purchased television along Wiles Road earlier this month.

The arrest stems from an incident involving a 16-year-old boy who had just purchased a new 24-inch television and was walking along the 5500 block of Wiles Road when the encounter occurred. Police say the suspect approached the teen and tried to forcibly take the television.

According to the arrest alert, the suspect struck the teenager several times during the attempted robbery. Investigators say the television was not taken, but the suspect did steal the teen’s hat before leaving the area. The teen was not seriously injured.

Officers with the Coconut Creek Police Department located the suspect a short time later near the intersection of Wiles Road and State Road 7. Police say he was still wearing the stolen hat when officers made contact and took him into custody.

The suspect was identified as Torvis Skinner, 38. Police confirmed he was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the arrest, indicating he was already under court supervision. Jail records show Skinner was charged with robbery, child abuse without great bodily harm, and violation of probation.

Court records list the robbery charge as a felony offense. The child abuse charge stems from the physical contact with the 16-year-old during the incident. Additional charges were filed related to Skinner’s probation status at the time of the arrest.

Skinner was transported to the Broward County Jail following his arrest. Bond information shows multiple holds associated with the case, including a parole or probation hold, which may affect his ability to post bond.

The case is being handled through the Broward County court system. All charges were listed as pending trial at the time of booking. No court dates have been publicly released.

Police did not report any weapon being used during the incident. The television involved was not recovered by the suspect and remained with the teen.

The incident highlights a busy commercial and pedestrian corridor along Wiles Road, an east-west roadway that runs through northern Broward County and connects residential areas with retail centers. Authorities did not announce any additional suspects or related incidents connected to the case.

Anyone with additional information related to the incident is encouraged to contact Coconut Creek police.
