Tragedy struck in Dania Beach as a 40 year old man lost his life and a 19 year old man was left injured following a robbery involving an adult male and a clerk that turned fatal in nature.The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit is currently delving into the details of these events which unfolded near Stirling Road 7 p.m.on Saturday evening of September 6th.Broward County Regional Communications was alerted to a shooting incident in proximity, to the 600 block of Stirling Road during this time. Sheriffs deputies arrived on the scene. Determined that a shooting took place after two separate armed robberies occurred at the 7 Eleven situated on 800 Stirling Road. Investigators stated that Justin Kessel first robbed an adult male in the parking lot of the 7 Eleven while wielding a gun before proceeding to rob the store clerk. As Kessel left the store witnesses reported seeing him run back, towards the robbery victim who had armed himself from his vehicle. Detectives mentioned that the victim discharged rounds resulting in Kessel being injured.The person who was attacked mentioned to the authorities that while he was holding Kessel at gunpoint until the deputies got there; someone in a 2025 Honda CR V tried to hit him with the car as he feared for his safety and had to dodge the moving vehicle and shoot more rounds for protection reasons. Kessel was. Taken by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue to a nearby hospital, for medical care. The adult man who was targeted was held temporarily for questioning. Then let go afterward. Detectives found the CR V during the investigation at Phippen Waiters Road in Dania Beach where Melvin Presley was discovered with gunshot wounds and taken to Memorial Regional Hospital by paramedics for medical attention but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later on.The inquiry into the robbery that escalated into a shooting is still underway. Being actively pursued by BSO detectives in collaboration with the Broward County State Attorney’s Office to assess potential additional charges, against the adult victim involved.
