Multi-Vehicle Crash Leaves A Man Dead In Pompano Beach

A man lost his life in a crash in Pompano Beach. It happened on Thursday, July 24 at, around 2;40 p.m. Someone called 911 to report a vehicle wreck with people hurt near the 1500 block of Southwest 46th Avenue. From what investigators have found out far two trucks were stopped in the right lane of Southwest 46th Avenue. One was a 2012 Chevrolet Express and the other was a 2018 Freightliner Box Truck. The Freightliner had broken down which is why the drivers had stopped. The Broward Sheriffs Office is now looking into the crash to figure out what happened.Detectives say Francine Gomes was behind the wheel of a 2024 Hyundai Elantra heading north on Southwest 46th Avenue in the lane. What happened next was a chain reaction; the front of her Elantra smashed into the back of a Chevrolet, which in turn got pushed into a Freightliner. Luckily one person was in the Chevrolet. Aurelio Gonzalez. The drivers of the two vehicles weren’t even, in their cars when the crash happened.Something went terribly wrong in Pompano Beach. Gonzalez was lucky to get help away. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue rushed to the scene and took him to North Broward Medical Center. For a while it seemed like he might pull through. But on Monday, July 28 the hospital delivered news; Gonzalez had passed away. The authorities hadn’t given up on figuring out what had happened though. On Tuesday July 29 detectives, from the BSO Traffic Homicide Unit started looking into the crash that took Gonzalezs life. They’re still working on getting to the bottom of it all.
