A fatal crash in Dania Beach on Sunday night is being looked into by detectives from the Broward Sheriffs Office Traffic Homicide Unit. The incident happened around 8;30 p.m. On August 24 when traffic homicide detectives were called to the 1200 block of Sheridan Street. What they found was a wreck involving a car and a motorcycle. From what they’ve pieced so far Omar Jerez was behind the wheel of a Toyota Rav 4 heading east on Sheridan Street toward the intersection, with Ocean Club Boulevard. As Eric Aguilar rode his 2022 Honda CBR300 motorcycle west on Sheridan Street a Toyota SUV suddenly made a turn at the intersection. Aguilar was traveling in the right, thru lane when the SUV cut in front of him. The motorcycle crashed into the passenger side of the SUV sending Aguilar flying. He landed hard on the pavement. Both the SUVs driver and Aguilar were rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital. The driver escaped with minor injuries but Aguilar wasn’t as fortunate. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. It’s possible that the motorcyclist was going fast which may have contributed to the accident. The investigation is still ongoing.
