BROWARD COUNTY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — BSO is asking for help in finding a second suspect in the 2007 murder of a 35-year-old man in Broward County.

The detectives from the Cold Case Unit of the Broward Sheriff’s Office have made progress in their investigation into a murder that occurred in unincorporated Central Broward back in 2007. They have recently identified the second person involved and are now seeking information from the public regarding this individual’s current whereabouts.

The suspect has been identified as Jairo Jonathan Aguilar Arevalo, also known as “Satanas.” To aid in locating him, investigators have released a flyer through Broward Crime Stoppers. The flyer includes an age progression photo, giving an idea of how Aguilar Arevalo might look today. At the time of the crime, he was approximately 37 years old and stood between 5 feet 1 inch to 5 feet 2 inches tall with short wavy hair. Aguilar Arevalo is wanted for first degree murder.

Based on the investigation, it was determined that on Sunday, January 14, 2007, at around 5;26 p.m., Jose Cuellar arrived near the area of Southwest 25th Street in a beige 1996 Toyota along with two other individuals who are considered co defendants.

According to detectives findings, one adult male exited the vehicle and walked away while another adult male fatally shot Cuellar shortly after. The first male then returned to the car and they fled from the scene. Homicide detectives dedicated years to investigating this case but unfortunately hit a dead end leading it to go cold over time.

In December 2021, detectives from the BSO Cold Case Unit, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), decided to reopen the case. After conducting thorough investigations, the homicide detectives concluded that all three males were affiliated with MS 13 (Mara Salvatrucha).

During their inquiry, the detectives successfully identified Sergio Perera Marenco as one of the two individuals involved in the murder. On Monday, February 27th, BSO detectives managed to locate Perera Marenco in Fort Lauderdale. They apprehended him and subsequently transferred him to BSO’s Main Jail. Perera Marenco was charged with first degree murder involving a firearm.

According to investigators, Aguilar Arevalo worked as a roofer and resided in Oakland Park area. He originally hails from El Salvador.
