BROWARD COUNTY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Broward Sheriff’s Office officials have set a line-of-duty memorial service for Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Firefighter/Paramedic Steven Lepselter, who died after suffering a medical emergency while on duty Sunday morning.

The memorial is scheduled for Thursday, April 9, 2026, with a livestream expected to begin at 11:30 a.m., according to BSO.

BSO identified the firefighter/paramedic as Steven Lepselter, born June 7, 1971. BSO said the agency continues to mourn his unexpected death.

Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony and the men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office released the memorial information through BSO’s public information office.

BSO said Lepselter joined the Broward Sheriff’s Office in 2007. Before that, he served with the Fire Department of New York. During his time with BSO, the agency said he worked in multiple assignments, starting with the Air-Sea Rescue Unit and later joining Weston Fire Rescue in 2022.

BSO said he also served as a hazardous materials instructor and earned numerous certifications. The agency said he worked in the Training Division and mentored other first responders.

In a statement released by BSO, Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony said Lepselter “will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to our mission and the lasting impact he made on our organization and the Broward County community.”

For residents in Boca Raton and across Palm Beach County who want to watch, BSO said the funeral can be viewed through a live stream because of limited venue capacity. The memorial and burial are reserved for family, close friends and invited guests only, BSO said.

After the funeral, BSO said colleagues and friends will pay their respects at Weston Regional Park. BSO provided media instructions tied to the processional as it passes through the park.

The park is at 20200 Saddle Club Rd. in Weston. BSO said media seeking video of the processional should be in place no later than 12:30 p.m. After entering the park from Saddle Club Road, BSO said media parking is on the left.

BSO said a BSO PIO will be on site at 12 p.m. to assist media.

What happens next is the memorial service Thursday and the post-service gathering at the park, with viewing for the public available through the livestream. Residents should expect the service to begin streaming at 11:30 a.m., and those in the Weston area should be aware of activity connected to the processional and park gathering later in the day.
