No, That’s Not Your Neighbor Who Is Asking For Cash

Door To Door Swindler In Boca Raton, Coral Springs, Margate, and Deerfield Beach areas.

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — Boca Post has received numerous reports of a local swindler who is going door to door, pretending to be a neighbor, asking for cash so his car doesn’t get towed.

The subject’s efforts are apparently paying off as he wouldn’t be doing it for so long if it wasn’t. Some say that this man has been observed committing this scam since November of 2021. We have received recent reports of incidents that occurred yesterday (March 11th, 2022).

Similar incidents have been reported spanning across West Boca, Boca Raton, Margate, Coral Springs, and Deerfield Beach areas including the following neighborhoods:

  • River Oaks
  • Barwood Estates
  • Crossings
  • Coquina Lakes
  • Harbors of River Glen
  • Boca Trace
  • Winston Park
  • County Pointe Estates
  • Waterford Courtyards
  • Starlight Cove
  • Hillsboro Pines

Many people have reported on various social media outlets about falling for this man’s sad stories and giving him cash. The alleged con man tells one unsuspecting person:

I parked next fire hydrant and they are going to tow my car, if I don’t give $200 right away.

Another person tells us that the man asked for him for cash to have his car towed back home from WaWa. The man of course wanted his ‘neighbor’ to pay the $285 bill, cash only.

In all of the reported incidents, the man says he is a neighbor of the person he is trying to get money from. It has been reported that the man even provides personally identifiable information about the neighbors and pretends to know things about the person who answers the door.

The alleged conman is said to be surveying the neighborhoods with the popular Nextdoor app and using information about neighbors to gain trust with the person answering the door. It is possible that he is also using publically available information in his efforts as well.

Some individuals say that they have reported the occurrences to authorities but police say that since the person is giving away cash that there is no actual crime. PBSO has not yet responded to Boca Post’s request for comment.

We cannot verify these claims, however, all of the reports we have seen indicate that this is being done by the same man if not two unidentified men driving the same red minivan.

Unfortunately, in the WEB2.0 world that we live in, the comments on these types of things aren’t kind. The people who have been taken advantage of by this individual do realize now that they shouldn’t have given him any money; however, they shared their stories to prevent the next person from being hustled. Boca Post commends those people and we are sharing their stories to further their efforts of preventing a conman from hustling our neighbors.
