Richard Lewis, 68, Charged With Resisting Arrest

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — 68-year-old Richard Lewis of Boca Golf and Tennis Club was arrested by PBSO after excessively honking his horn near the scene of the Yamato brush fire.

While the smoke from the Yamato Scrub Area brush fire has settled, a Boca Golf and Tennis Club resident is still facing some legal trouble after a recent arrest near the scene. 68-year-old Richard Lewis of Boca Golf and Tennis Club was charged with several serious crimes when things “heated up” after he honked his horn excessively at the traffic.

A PBSO deputy was directing traffic as part of a mutual aid effort to the City of Boca Raton to support the Yamato Scrub Area brush fire on Thursday, April 11th, 2024 when Lewis was observed getting all “heated up” over the traffic. Deputies say that Lewis was driving his black 1974 Porsche near Boca Raton Club and Congress Ave when he laid on his horn and screamed at the driver in front of him as they were trying to pull out of the quiet country club. Deputies ordered Lewis to stop who, deputies say, became irate. As a backup deputy arrived, Lewis backed up and proceeded back into the community after refusing to comply with deputies.

Lewis then proceeded to his home on the 17000 block of Candlewood Terrace. Deputies say they later located Lewis at Boca Club Boulevard and Gorham Way where they intended to issue him citations for improper honking and resisting without violence. Lewis then refused to sign any citations and began to walk away from deputies to spite being told he was not free to leave. Deputies then went “hands on” and attempted to place Lewis into handcuffs. Lewis then bit one of the deputies. Deputies also say Lewis clenched his fists like he was going to punch the deputies.

Lewis was transported to a local hospital where he was treated, released, and arrested. In addition to the “illegal honking” traffic ticket, Lewis was charged with the following criminal offenses:

  • 784.07(2b) Battery On A Law Enforcement Officer
  • 784.07(2a) Assault On A Law Enforcement Officer
  • 2 counts of 843.01 Resisting With Violence
  • 843.02 Resisting Without Violence

Recent court records indicate that Lewis may be a nuisance behind of the large walls of the Boca Golf and Tennis Club, as well. According to a recent court filing, Boca Golf and Tennis Club accuses Lewis of being a nuisance by harassing and threatening other members.
