Today's Weather - Friday, March 20, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Friday starts with a 30% chance of showers and a few thunderstorms mainly before late morning, then skies trend mostly sunny. It will feel breezy at times with northeast winds around 15–17 mph and gusts near 24 mph, keeping the coast cooler with a high near 74. Tonight turns mostly clear and comfortably cool, with lows around 64 and a lighter north breeze. Beachgoers should take the high rip current risk seriously today, especially along the Atlantic shoreline

Boca Raton’s weather today is being driven by a large area of high pressure centered near the Carolinas, which is spreading down across the Southeast and much of Florida. South Florida sits on the southern edge of that system, and that placement matters: it keeps a steady north-to-northeast wind in place and funnels in quick, low-topped Atlantic showers.

Radar trends overnight and early this morning show “streaming” showers moving from north-northeast to south-southwest, with most of the activity forming over the Atlantic and brushing the immediate east coast. The National Weather Service expects those spotty showers (and a small thunder chance) to linger into the late morning, then fade as drier air and sinking motion in the atmosphere take over.

That’s why rain chances drop sharply by this evening and stay very low through the weekend. The other headline is wind.

With the pressure difference still tight today, gusts around 20–25 mph are expected into the afternoon. That breeze can make it feel cooler near the water and will also roughen the surf and intracoastal waters.

Boaters and beachgoers should plan around hazardous Atlantic conditions today into Saturday morning. Northeast winds near 20 knots with gusts up to 25 knots will keep seas in the 5–8 foot range offshore (occasionally higher), with a moderate chop on the Intracoastal.

A few showers and a slight thunder chance are possible over the Atlantic waters this morning into early afternoon. Conditions gradually improve Saturday as winds ease to 10–15 knots and seas subside, with a more noticeable calming trend by Saturday night and Sunday.

Along the coast, the elevated north/northeast swell supports a high rip current risk today.
