Today's Weather - Thursday, April 23, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Partly sunny skies will carry Boca Raton through today with a cooler coastal high near 77. East winds pick up late morning into early afternoon, with occasional gusts around 20 mph near the beach. A brief shower can’t be ruled out, but most neighborhoods stay dry. The main safety concern remains the high rip current risk along the Atlantic beaches

Boca Raton’s weather today is being driven by a familiar spring setup: a broad area of high pressure over the western Atlantic is still influencing South Florida, keeping an onshore (east) breeze in place. The National Weather Service notes the overall pattern hasn’t changed much, but the pressure difference that fuels stronger winds is easing.

That means the windiest stretch should be more focused late morning through early afternoon, especially right along the Atlantic coast. Moisture is also slowly working back into the atmosphere above us.

The morning weather balloon data referenced in the forecast discussion shows the mid-level air is not as dry as it was, and overall moisture has climbed to just over an inch. With a small disturbance aloft moving across the region, that added moisture is enough to support a few more clouds and a spotty shower or two at times.

For Boca Raton specifically, the day still leans mostly dry, with the better rain chances holding off until Friday. By Friday afternoon, the forecast brings a 30% chance of showers and a few thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m., as daytime heating helps kick off inland and moving showers.

For boaters off Boca Raton and the nearby Palm Beach County coast, conditions remain on the “caution” side today as east winds run 10 to 15 knots with higher gusts this afternoon. Seas hold around 2 to 3 feet nearshore and offshore, with a moderate chop on the Intracoastal at times.

Winds ease tonight and continue to relax into the weekend, generally 5 to 10 knots with seas near 2 feet. Beachgoers should take the surf seriously: the onshore flow is maintaining a dangerous rip current setup along Atlantic beaches, even when waves don’t look especially large.

Current Advisories / Watches / Warnings

  • High Rip Current Risk through Friday evening for FLZ168 (Palm Beach County beaches).
  • High Rip Current Risk through Friday morning for FLZ172-173.
