Palm Beach County Under Tropical Storm Watch – Hurricane Ian Strengthens, Track Changes Slightly

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — Hurricane Ian, now a major hurricane, is expected to strengthen into a category 4 hurricane before weakening and hitting the west coast of Florida.

The National Hurricane Center has changed Ian’s projected track to reflect a landfall a little bit more to the south than previously expected. The current track has triggered a Tropical Storm watch for Palm Beach County and much of the southeast coast of Florida due to the size of the storm.

The storm does bring a danger of life-threatening storm surges along much of Florida’s west coast. The highest risk area is the west coast of Florida from Fort Myers to Tampa.

Tropical storm conditions are expected by kate today with Hurricane-force winds expected beginning tomorrow morning in the west-central Florida area.

As of the latest update, the schools have not been canceled in Palm Beach County.

Many people took to the road when they learned a major hurricane was coming to Florida. For those of us from Florida, sometimes it is best to wait for the big storms out so you don’t find yourself evacuating to an area that will be hit harder than the place you left.

Boca Post reminds our readers, again, the cone that everyone talks about is only a predicated path based on probability. It is in no way, shape, or form, a rule of law for a hurricane. These storms can turn, as they have in the past, and we could be staring down the path of a Category 4 hurricane. The best practice is to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best.

We will certainly see a lot of rain in the area. Be prepared for localized flooding, especially in western Boca Raton and coastal areas. Stay off of the roads unless you absolutely have to drive. Don’t drive through large puddles, especially if you don’t know the area. Many people have drowned after driving into canals thinking they are puddles when exploring the flood waters after a storm.

Be safe people.
