BOYNTON BEACH, FL — A new roof, impact windows or hurricane protection may now come with a city permit fee refund for some Boynton Beach homeowners.

The City of Boynton Beach has launched a temporary Building Permit Fee Rebate Program that refunds 100% of city-imposed building permit fees for qualifying storm-hardening and energy-efficiency improvements on homesteaded residential properties.

According to the city, the program is already active and applies to eligible permits during the program period, which runs from May 1, 2026, through 5 p.m. on September 15, 2026.

The rebate is aimed at homeowners making improvements that can strengthen homes, improve energy efficiency or add hurricane protection before the deadline.

What Boynton Beach Permit Work Qualifies

According to the city, eligible improvements include:

  • Roof replacement, also known as re-roofing
  • Impact-resistant window or door replacement
  • Hurricane shutters or other hurricane protection installation
  • Air-conditioning system changeout
  • Generator installation

The permit application must be limited to one or more of the eligible improvement types. The city says permits that include additional work beyond the covered categories are not eligible for the rebate.

The rebate covers city-imposed building permit fees. State-mandated surcharges, including BCAIF and DBPR fees collected on behalf of the State of Florida, are not eligible for refund under the program.

Who Is Eligible For The Boynton Beach Rebate

To qualify, a homeowner must own and occupy a homesteaded residential property inside Boynton Beach city limits.

Single-family homes, townhomes, villas and condominium units may qualify, according to the city.

The property also must have received a homestead exemption as of January 1, 2026, based on Palm Beach County Property Appraiser records.

The rebate is issued directly to the property owner, not the contractor.

No Separate Application Required

One of the biggest practical details for homeowners is that the city says no separate rebate application is required.

According to Boynton Beach, the city’s Building Department and Finance Department will automatically identify eligible permits. Rebate checks will then be mailed to the property address on file with the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser within 60 days of permit issuance.

Assistant City Manager Adam N. Temple said the program is designed to make it easier for homeowners to invest in home safety and neighborhood resilience.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for Boynton Beach homeowners to invest in their safety,” Temple said in the city announcement.

Deadline Is September 15

The program automatically ends at 5 p.m. on September 15, 2026. Permit applications submitted after that time will not be eligible, according to the city.

Homeowners with questions about the program or rebate eligibility can contact the City of Boynton Beach Building Department by phone at 561-742-6000, Option 1, by email at [email protected], online through the city’s Building Department page, or in person at City Hall, 100 E. Ocean Ave., Boynton Beach.
