Today's Weather - Thursday, June 25, 2026
BOCA RATON, FL — Expect a hot, mostly sunny Thursday with a high near 91 and heat index values up to about 103. A few showers or storms are possible late morning, but the better chance arrives mid to late afternoon and into early evening. Any storm that develops can bring frequent lightning, brief heavy downpours, and a quick burst of wind. Tonight turns mostly clear and warm, with a low around 82 and only an early-evening storm chance
South Florida stays in a familiar summer setup today, and that means heat first, then a storm window later. The National Weather Service notes weak high pressure holding over the Gulf waters while a broad “cap” of warmer air aloft remains in place over the region.
At the same time, the Atlantic-side ridge is nudging toward the middle of the peninsula, helping turn our low-level winds more southeast as the morning goes on. That southeast breeze matters locally because it helps kick off the sea breeze and sets the stage for collisions between the Atlantic sea breeze and other boundaries later today.
Those boundary collisions are often the trigger that turns a quiet, sunny early afternoon into scattered thunderstorms by mid to late afternoon and early evening. Moisture is still plentiful (the AFD highlights very humid air in place), so storms that form can drop heavy rain quickly.
The discussion also flags that storms may move slowly at times, which raises the risk for localized street flooding in the heaviest downpours. While the interior and western areas are favored for the most numerous storms, the Atlantic metro (including Boca Raton) can still see storms develop early with boundary collisions or drift in later.
Boaters and beachgoers along the Boca Raton coast can expect generally manageable conditions outside of thunderstorms. Today brings south winds around 5–10 knots with seas near 2 feet early, dropping to 1 foot or less later; tonight and Friday trend to southeast 10–15 knots with seas around 2 feet and a moderate chop on the Intracoastal.
The main hazard is storms: isolated to scattered thunderstorms can form near the coast and some may drift offshore late afternoon into early evening, producing sudden gusty winds, rougher seas, and dangerous lightning. If thunder is heard, get off the water and away from the beach.
