Today's Weather - Sunday, June 21, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL — Expect a mostly sunny and very warm Sunday, with a high near 90 and heat index values pushing into the low 100s. A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives mainly after mid-afternoon, with the most active window late day into early evening. Storms that form may move slowly, bringing brief heavy rain and lightning. Smoke lingering across parts of South Florida may also lead to hazier skies and occasional visibility reductions, especially farther south and west of Boca

Today’s setup across South Florida is a familiar early-summer pattern: a lot of heat building through midday, then scattered storms trying to pop up later as sea breezes collide. The National Weather Service notes an upper-level disturbance is still hanging around the state, which keeps the atmosphere “unsettled” enough for storms to develop again this evening.

Early this morning, the air profile looked a bit drier and more stable than it has been recently, which supports the sunny start. But that won’t last all day.

As the ground heats up, moisture is expected to surge back in and the atmosphere becomes more storm-friendly by late afternoon. That’s why Boca Raton’s rain chances are modest (around 30%), but not zero—especially late day.

Winds stay weak overall, which matters because it can make storms slow-moving. The forecast discussion highlights that the most likely storm development zone is the southeast interior, where the Gulf breeze and Atlantic sea breeze meet.

For the Boca Raton-area Atlantic waters (Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach), winds stay generally southerly around 5–10 knots today and tonight, with seas 2 feet or less. That’s favorable for most boating, but keep an eye on the sky: isolated to scattered thunderstorms can produce sudden gusty winds, higher seas, and dangerous lightning.

The Intracoastal should run a light chop. By midweek, southeast winds may increase to 10–15 knots with seas around 2 feet.

If storms develop late today, beachgoers should be ready to leave the water quickly when thunder is heard.
