BOCA RATON, FL — Partly sunny and hot today, with a high near 88 and a sticky feel that can push the heat index into the 100–105 range. Most neighborhoods stay dry through early afternoon, then a few showers and thunderstorms may develop later in the day. The best storm chances are inland, but Boca’s western side has a better shot than the immediate beach. Tonight turns mostly cloudy and warm near 78, with only a low chance of a brief shower early in the evening

South Florida’s weather pattern is staying in a familiar early-summer groove, and the National Weather Service in Miami says today’s setup favors a mostly dry start followed by scattered afternoon storms. A large area of high pressure over the western Atlantic is sliding east.

That shift weakens the usual onshore breeze and turns it more southeasterly, which matters because lighter steering winds can let storms linger longer where they form. The atmosphere also has plenty of moisture available for downpours, even if the day begins quiet.

For Boca Raton, the main window to watch is mid-to-late afternoon into early evening. Storms are still expected to favor inland areas and Southwest Florida overall, but with the weaker low-level wind, the western suburbs of the east coast metro (including areas west of I-95) have a better chance of catching a storm than on days with a stronger sea breeze.

If a storm moves through, the biggest impacts are brief heavy rain, frequent lightning, and a quick burst of gusty wind. The forecast discussion highlights a localized urban/poor-drainage flooding concern today—mainly where heavier rain repeats over the same spot.

Boating conditions look generally manageable today off Boca Raton, with southeast winds around 5–10 knots and seas around 2 feet early, dropping to 1 foot or less later. Intracoastal waters should run a light chop.

The main marine concern is thunderstorms: any storm can bring sudden gusty winds, rougher seas, and dangerous lightning, even if the broader forecast is calm. Tonight winds turn southerly 5–10 knots with seas under 2 feet.

If you’re heading out, keep an eye on the sky mid-to-late afternoon and have a quick plan to get back to safe harbor.
