BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Drivers in central Boca Raton faced major delays Monday afternoon after a crash prompted lane closures at a key intersection near Yamato Road.

Boca Raton Police issued a traffic advisory reporting that all westbound lanes at Yamato Road and Northwest 2nd Avenue were closed due to an accident. Police also reported that one southbound lane just north of the intersection was closed.

The advisory was sent at 12:55 p.m. Monday, March 23.

The closures affect a heavily traveled corridor that connects neighborhoods, businesses, and commuter routes across Boca Raton and the broader Palm Beach County area. With all westbound lanes shut down at the intersection, drivers heading west on Yamato should expect to be diverted or stopped until lanes reopen.

Boca Raton Police did not release additional details in the advisory about the crash, including how many vehicles were involved, whether anyone was injured, or how long the closures were expected to last.

Authority for traffic control at the scene sits with the Boca Raton Police Department, which issued the advisory and directed motorists to avoid the area.

Police urged drivers to seek an alternate route.

What happens next is tied to the crash response and roadway clearance. Lanes are expected to remain closed until the scene is cleared and it is safe to reopen traffic. Residents and commuters who regularly use Yamato Road should watch for continued congestion in the area and plan extra time, especially for westbound travel through the Yamato Road and Northwest 2nd Avenue intersection.

Motorists approaching the area should follow posted detours and any directions from officers or traffic control devices, and consider rerouting before reaching the intersection to avoid backups.
