DELRAY BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — The City of Delray Beach has started work on a large coastal protection initiative through its multi-million-dollar beach nourishment project.

Led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and awarded to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock, the project will deliver new sand to restore and strengthen Delray Beach’s shoreline. Funding for this effort comes from multiple sources, including the federal government, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Palm Beach County, and the City of Delray Beach.

Supported by the Fiscal 2025 Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, the project represents a collaborative commitment to preserving and protecting Florida’s coastline. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for mid-December, and the project is expected to be completed in early 2026.

The beach nourishment project will restore lost beach areas while bringing back recreational zones and strengthening the city’s storm protection and sea level rise defense systems. The project will establish environmental benefits through its support of tourism growth and development of public recreational areas and sustainable practices that will endure.

“Delray Beach is proud to be taking this important step toward protecting our coastline and ensuring the future vitality of our community,” said City Manager Terrence Moore. “This project reflects the strength of our partnerships at every level of government and our shared commitment to a resilient Delray Beach.”

The City’s beach nourishment project demonstrates Delray Beach’s forward-thinking coastal management strategy through its work with state and county and federal partners to protect the community for future generations.
