Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives say a Deerfield Beach woman stole more than $1.2 million from a local business over several months in 2025, then used the money for high-end jewelry, private travel, and luxury rentals.
A federal grand jury in Miami has indicted U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick on charges that she and several co-defendants stole $5 million in FEMA funds, laundered the money, and funneled a substantial portion into her 2021 congressional campaign, even as she continues to deny the allegations and point to her federal funding work in Palm Beach County.
Carolyn Hanson of Lake Worth has been arrested and charged with several felonies, including grand theft and money laundering, according to jail records released to Boca Post by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
