UPDATE

BSO tells Boca Post that as Herring was driving his Police motorcycle, a large palm frond fell from a tree within the median and struck him.

Herring was unable to maintain control of the motorcycle and drifted southeast into the median, where he struck two large palm trees and came to rest in the roadway.
Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported Herring to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood where he was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation reveals that excessive speed, driver impairment, and mechanical malfunction are not considered contributing factors to the crash.
